“Newman
Chapel: Growing in faith and obedience to Christ through inspiring worship,
open fellowship, Biblical training, humble service, and loving evangelism.”
Growing:
We make it our aim to welcome people to our
fellowship—that’s numerical growth. We make it our aim to trust Christ more
and love one another better—that’s spiritual growth.
Growing
in faith and obedience:
We believe that salvation comes only by trusting Jesus
Christ. He submitted to his heavenly
Father, obeyed all the requirements of the law, and paid the penalty of our
sin on the cross. He rose from death
and lives to pray (intercede) for us in heaven. Because of the free gift of salvation we
express our thankfulness by making every effort to obey what he has
commanded. His command is to love
one another as he has loved us.
Inspiring
Worship:
Worship is the offering of ourselves
to God for his service. Coming to
praise God in song, to bring offerings, to hear his word, to lift up prayer
and to celebrate the sacraments is the outward expression of an inner
commitment.
Open
fellowship:
Everyone who enters our doors is welcome. Some worshippers are seasoned saints
while others are bumbling beginners.
We believe that the weak need help from the strong and that Christians
grow in faith as they give, share, and encourage. No one can grow and mature without loving
others.
Biblical
training:
The Bible is the word of God. All our teaching, preaching and
counseling aim to be Biblical. The
main textbook and moral code for life is the Bible.
Humble
service:
We make it our aim to act as servants one to another and
not lord it over others.
Loving
Evangelism:
We bring the message that all are lost and need to know
forgiveness from Christ. We who
bring this message are no better than others. We need the same forgiveness for our many
sins. Because we have been forgiven
we extend forgiveness in Christ’s name to those who have hurt us.
