MOBILE FOOD PANTRY

at Newman Chapel

Last Monday of each month

  3:45 - 4:30 p.m.

Second Harvest Gleaners Food Bank is sending a truck with 5,000 lbs. of food (fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products, and canned goods).

Our food pantry works with farmers, packers, processors, distributors, truckers, retailers, brokers, reclamation centers and the government.  It gives them a profitable, convenient donation outlet for simple surpluses, seconds, misprints, short-fills, dents, leftover holiday items, seasonal goods, promotional items, close-code-dated goods, customer refusals, over-bakes, or discontinued product lines.

These goods are available to needy households, the homeless, unemployed senior citizens, runaways, refugees, migrant farm workers, at-risk children, welfare-to-work families, single-parent households, persons in substance abuse treatment programs,  those going through difficult times because of health reasons or job layoffs.

All you need to receive food is fill out a form with your name, address, and number of people in your family.  No one will be turned away unless food runs out.

You Can Help Sponsor This Ministry!

When we draw goods from the Food Bank we pay a handling fee of $250 for a truck of 5,000 lbs.  If you will help cover some of those costs, two wonderful things can happen:

    1. You could get up to 75% of your money back!  Gifts to the Food Bank, even if designated to an agency’s account, qualify for a 50% Michigan State Tax Credit (up to $100 for a $200 gift from an individual, and up to $200 for a $400 gift from a couple filing jointly) and whatever normal Federal Income Tax deduction the donor claims for charitable contributions, which for many people can be 28%.  So each dollar you give could cost you as little as 25 cents.

    2. But each dollar you give could let this food program draw somewhere between $15 to as much as $50’s worth of food to give to needy families.

$15 to $50’s worth of food for 25 cents…. If that isn’t the best bargain around, it is pretty close!

How can you take advantage of this opportunity?

--Make out your check to:  Second Harvest Gleaners Food Bank and note on the memo line of the check or in a note sent with the check that funds are to be put on our account (Account #1953).
